Lymphovenous Bypass (Lymphedema Prevention with Immediate Lymphatic Reconstruction)

Our plastic surgeons work closely with your breast surgeons to reduce the chances that you will develop the debilitating symptoms associated with lymphedema, a common complication that follows the removal of lymph nodes.  During the removal of lymph nodes by your breast surgeon, a fluorescent green dye is injected into the closest extremity.  The lymphatic channels will glow, indicating where injury has occurred.  Utilizing a specialized microscope, our plastic surgeons are able to re-route the lymphatic channel to different veins, restoring the flow of the lymphatic fluid and minimizing the risk of swelling in the affected extremity.
