The Peter Jay Sharp Program for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery was established at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to deliver state-of-the-art techniques for plastic surgery of the breast. Our program focuses on both aesthetic surgery of the breast as well as in breast reconstruction after mastectomy.  

Our expert team of plastic surgeons utilize the latest techniques to provide the most natural results. In aesthetic breast surgery, we tailor individual results to our patients seeking breast augmentation, breast implant revision, breast reduction, or breast lifts (mastopexy). There are so many factors to consider and we will help you every step along the way.

For breast reconstruction, we offer the full range of techniques from implants to autologous tissue and microsurgical reconstruction. We provide an individualized approach to each patient and provide the information necessary to make an educated decision. As the first program dedicated to perforator flap reconstruction in Boston, the DIEP flap is the most common type of procedure that we perform.  In addition, we offer alternate types of reconstruction such as the SIEA, SGAP, and PAP flap. Our program has performed over 2500 microsurgical breast reconstructions since 2003.

Our practice now offers the latest surgical techniques for the treatment and prevention of lymphedema. Patients undergoing axillary lymph node resection are at risk for swelling of the arm after surgery. Our team has developed microsurgical techniques to minimize this risk at the time of surgery and is the first in the area to perform immediate lymphatic reconstruction. In addition, patients who already have arm swelling may also be candidates for surgery such as lymph node transplant, lymphaticovenous anastomosis bypass, or liposuction and debulking.
